While waiting for the toilet paper roll to dry, you create the bat’s wings, teeth, and ears out of card stock paper.

Cut a pipe cleaner into three parts. You’ll need a longer piece for the leg and two smaller pieces for the feet. Wrap the smaller piece around the longer one to create the feet.

When the roll is dry, stick on the googly eyes, then the adult will use hot glue to attach the wings, ears, and pipe cleaners for the feet.

Grab a piece of black yarn and hang it up using tape. Then, hang the bats upside down on the yarn by wrapping the pipe cleaner feet around the yarn! How cute is this?!

C. Activity

Have the kids pour salt on the glue. Be generous! It’s good to have a lot of salt on the glue. We do this on an art tray because you will dump the excess salt onto another tray.

We make multiple bats, so we just use the leftover salt for the other bats.

Then, the kids will use watercolors to paint on the salt! It’s fun to watch the watercolors flow through the salt.

You can do the project right away, you don’t have to wait for the salt to dry, or you can let it sit overnight and try the project when the salt is dry.

#6: Oil Pastel Bats

I love the way oil pastel crafts turn out. The colors are SO pretty and bold.

Draw a bat shape using a pencil on black paper and have the kids paint them using acrylic paint

While you are waiting for that to dry, start creating the rice!

Add 1 cup of rice into a container or ziplock bag. Squirt some acrylic paint inside the bag and shake it until the color covers all the rice.

Then, dump the rice onto an art tray covered in parchment paper for easy clean-up. Make sure to spread the rice out on the parchment paper, so it doesn’t stick together. The rice will take about 5 minutes to dry!

C. Activity

Have the kids create a face for each of their bats that they have created using googly eyes and paint!

Then, they will spread a thin layer of glue onto the bat’s wings. Finally, they will sprinkle the colored rice on the bat’s wings!

Let it dry, and check out your adorable bats! Have the kids feel the rice on them! It’s great for sensory.
