Christmas Lava Lamps
Make these fun Christmas lava lamps with your kids this season!
This is a fun way to combine some learning and crafting together. The kids will love creating the jars for this project as well as seeing the lava lamps bubble!

A. Supplies you need
Here are all the supplies you need to make Christmas lava lamps. We decided to make a reindeer, snowman, Christmas tree, and Santa themed lava lamps.
Depending on which ones you want to make, these are the supplies you’ll need!
- glass jars
- craft poms
- googly eyes
- cardstock
- scissors
- star sticker
- dry erase markers
- glitter glue
- hot glue
- baby oil
- water
- acrylic paint
- Alka Seltzer Tablets
One note- I wanted to tell you, you can take off these items on the glass jars when you use hot glue! We were able to create other things with the jars again and again, which is an added bonus!
B. Directions
Below are the directions on how to make the lava lamps bubble! Then, I’ll go into detail on how to make each of the jars.
Lava Lamp Directions
#1: Add baby oil into a jar and fill it up a little over half way.
#2: In a bowl, mix a few squirts of acrylic paint and 1/4 cup of water. Mix it up and pour into the jar.
#3: Break up an Alka Seltzer tablet and drop it into the jar.
#4: Watch your lava lamps bubble! You can do this again and again by adding more Alka Seltzer tablets.
Jar Directions
Reindeer- use hot glue to add on googly eyes, a red pom nose, and create antlers out of brown cardstock paper.
Snowman- glue on googly eyes, a paper orange nose, draw on the smile using dry erase markers, and to create the ear muffs hot glue poms on each side of the jar and attach a pipe cleaner at the top!
Christmas tree- hot glue on craft poms around the jar that are different colors! Use a star sticker and put it at the top.
Santa- make a rectangle for Santa’s belt. Before gluing it on, you can create a buckle out of paper or use glitter glue! Hot glue it around the jar.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
Making Christmas lava lamps are SO much fun! It’s the perfect way to get some learning in this holiday season in a fun way!
