How to Make Invisible Ink (2026)

Learn how to make your own invisible ink! This is such a fun DIY activity you can do at home with your kids or in your classroom.

The kids are going to be amazed to reveal the images. You can make any shapes, numbers or letters so they can reveal them.

Let’s get started with learning how to make invisible ink!

Supplies Needed to Make Invisible Ink

You need to use cardstock for best results! I also suggest doing this activity outside because it can get messy and stain!

Wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy and use an art tray or cover your space to make sure it doesn’t stain anything.

Invisible Ink Directions

Here are the directions on how to make your own invisible ink!

#1: Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with a 1/2 cup of water in a bowl.

#2: Use a paintbrush to paint your pictures or messages onto cardstock paper with the baking soda mix you just made.

#3: WAIT for the picture to dry- this won’t work if it’s still wet- you have to let it dry completely. Make the color changing mix while you are waiting

#4: Mix 1 teaspoon of ground Turmeric and a 1/2 cup of rubbing alcohol in a bowl.

#5: Use a paintbrush to reveal the images!! This is SO cool!
