#1: Bird Nest Paper Craft

This is an adorable bird craft for preschoolers that is easy to make, and your kids will love it!

My kids are fascinated by how birds make their nests. This was a great lesson, along with the craft.

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

cardstock colored paper
googly eyes
paper plate
glue
scissors
brown pipe cleaners
feathers

B. Set-up

Create a nest by cutting a paper plate in half and paint it brown! We used acrylic paint because it dries faster and covers more of the plate.

C. Activity

Draw two circles to make the birds. The head should be slightly smaller than the body. Then, paste these two together for each bird you want to make.

Create a face for each bird by adding eyes and a beak.

Then, glue craft feathers for the bird’s wings. Glue the birds onto the nest using a glue stick.

Lastly, have the kids cut up pieces of brown pipe cleaner or grab actual sticks outside and glue them to the nest you created.

You have the cutest little baby birds in a nest!

#2: Flamingo Noodle Craft

This is such a fun sensory bird craft for preschoolers! Flamingos are amazing, and they are so much fun to craft.

The bow-tie pasta noodles are perfect for the flamingo’s feathers!

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

acrylic paint
paintbrushes
googly eyes
parchment paper
tray

B. Set-up

Draw your flamingo shape on paper.

Then, have the kids start painting the pasta noodles! We painted them by hand with acrylic paint since there weren’t that many noodles.

When you paint the noodles, place a piece of parchment paper down on a tray and let the noodles dry on the paper.

C. Activity

While you are waiting for the noodles to dry, have the kids paint the flamingo that you drew!

Use glue to stick the noodles onto the back of the flamingo to make it look like feathers.

Then, paint on the legs. For the feet, we broke a noodle in half and painted it yellow.

#3: Peacock Paper Plate

This bird craft is fun, simple, and so colorful! One of my favorite birds is a peacock.

This is a great bird craft for preschoolers!

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

paper plate
construction paper
glue stick
googly eyes
glue
washable paint
sponges
scissors

B. Set-up

Create the peacock’s face on construction paper and cut it out.

Also, grab a sponge and cut it into a few rectangular pieces.

C. Activity

The kids will dip the sponge into the paint and make prints on the paper plate. They can use multiple colors to make the peacock look beautiful!

Wait for the paper plate to dry. While waiting, the kids can create the peacock’s face!

Lastly, use a glue stick to glue the head of the peacock to the paper plate.

#4: Coffee Filter Peacock Craft

Kids of every age will love this bird craft for preschoolers because they turn out so pretty no matter how you color the filters.

They can even scribble on the filter, and it will turn out amazing!

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

coffee filters
spray bottles
markers
cardstock paper
googly eyes
scissors
glue stick
art trays

B. Set-up

Kids will color their coffee filters using purple, blue, and green markers. They can make specific designs or just scribble.

C. Activity

Use a spray bottle to spray the entire coffee filter on a tray. I separate all the filters, so they don’t blend together, so grab a few trays!

Then, let them air dry. This is a two-day project because they look so much better when they air dry.

Have the kids create the head for the peacock out of green, blue, or purple paper. Add googly eyes and a beak.

Use a glue stick to paste the head to the peacock!

#5: Parrot Letter Craft

I love creating parrot crafts because they are so colorful! This is a great way to add some learning with this bird craft for preschoolers.

My kids loved adding on all the colorful letters for this craft.

How to do this activity

B. Set-up

Create a bubble letter P out of construction paper and cut it out. To create the center, poke a hole in the paper and cut it out!

C. Activity

Have the kids pick out what color feathers they want to use for the parrot. Then, have them glue the letter P down to a white piece of paper.

They should glue the feathers onto the side of the letter P!

Lastly, create a beak out of yellow construction paper and add a googly eye!

#6: Celery Printed Owls

Got some old celery stalks? Don’t throw them away! Use them to create this fun bird craft for preschoolers.

I love the prints that the celery sticks use. It’s the perfect way to make an owl’s belly!

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

B. Set-up

Print off my free owl template and trace it onto brown construction paper. Then, cut it out!

Also, make a belly for the owls out of white cardstock paper and paste it on.

C. Activity

Make the feet on your own, or you can cut the feet off the template and trace them onto orange paper. Then, have the kids use a glue stick to glue them on.

Create the owl’s face by adding googly eyes and a beak.

Lastly, the kids will dip the ends of the celery sticks into washable paint and make prints on the belly! They can use one color, or they can create patterns.

#8: Chick Sponge Craft

This bird craft for preschoolers is adorable for springtime or even Easter!

Using sponges to create crafts is fun and easy for kids! They are perfect for their little hands.

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

B. Set-up

Create a circle shape using a Sharpie on a sponge. Then, have the kids paint the sponge yellow!

C. Activity

They will make prints on paper. They should spread out their prints just a little bit to fit a few chicks on the paper.

Then, take an orange marker and make the legs for the chicks. After that, glue on googly eyes and two feathers to each side of the chick for its wings!

This is the cutest and most simple bird craft.

#9: Plastic Egg Birds

Got some plastic Easter eggs lying around? I always have a bunch of leftover eggs from Easter! This is a perfect way to use them.

B. Set-up

Cut a paper plate in half. Paint it brown using acrylic paint!

C. Activity

Glue brown shredded paper to the plate. Glue some googly eyes on the egg! Create a beak by folding a piece of orange cardstock paper, cutting a small triangle, and gluing it on the egg’s center.

Hot glue the eggs to the nest! Instead of using shredded paper, you can also grab some sticks outside and create the nest using the sticks!

#10: Ripped Paper Bird Craft

Ripped paper crafts are fun and easy for toddlers and preschoolers to do.

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

construction/cardstock paper

B. Set-up

Have your child start ripping up pieces of paper. You can use either cardstock or construction paper. It will be a little harder to rip cardstock, but I liked the bright blue color for this one.

C. Activity

Print off the free template and trace it onto the paper or draw your own bird shape.

Then, the kids can start pasting the pieces of paper onto the shape. Tehy should try to fill in as much space as possible.

Then, add on a beak, eyes and make a bird’s nest out of brown paper.

You can add on paper eggs or some fun colorful craft eggs! What a fun and simple bird craft.

#11: Paper Plate Owls

This is one of my favorite bird crafts for preschoolers that we have made! I love seeing the owl’s HUGE eyes!

I love that you can create such fun things out of a simple paper plate.

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

paper plates
acrylic paint
cardstock paper
glue stick
hot glue
acrylic paint marker

B. Set-up

Fold both sides of the paper plate towards the middle of the plate to be the wings. Then, fold down the top of the paper plate to be the head.

Paint your paper plates using acrylic paint! We decided to make our owl brown, but you can choose whatever color you would like!

While the plates are drying, you can create the owl’s eyes and beak out of colored paper.

C. Activity

We hot glued the head down so it would stay down; I would suggest doing this step too! Tape or regular glue won’t have it stay as good.

Add on your eyes and beak using a glue stick or glue!

Lastly, draw on some feathers using an acrylic paint marker. This is the cutest owl craft!

#12: Sponge Printed Penguins

Penguins make for such a fun bird craft for preschoolers! It’s a great craft to do in the winter.

I love how they look on the blue paper with the fingerprint snow in the back!

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

sponges
scissors
glue stick
cardstock
glue
glitter glue
acrylic paint

B. Set-up

Draw a circle shape using a Sharpie on a sponge and cut it out.

Create wings, beaks, and feet out of cardstock paper.

C. Activity

Paint the sponge using black acrylic paint and make prints on blue paper.

Then, have the kids paste on the wings, beak, and feet using a glue stick! Also, add on those cute googly eyes!

Add on colored poms for ear muffs! If you use small poms, you can use school glue to attach them. Then, use glitter glue to make the top of the ear muffs.

#13: Fork-Printed Chicks

This is a great bird craft for preschoolers to talk to your kids about the lifecycle of a chick!

It’s also just adorable and really fun to make too. It’s a gert craft for the spring or Easter time.

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

colored cardstock paper
scissors
paint
feathers
glue
googly eyes
marker
forks

B. Set-up

Make an egg shape on cardstock paper and cut them out.

Create a circle inside each of the eggs so the kids know where to make their prints.

C. Activity

The kids will dip their forks into yellow paint and make prints inside the circles that you created!

They should cover the entire circle to look like a chick. Then, create legs for your chick with a marker!

Make a face for your chick by adding on googly eyes and a beak.

Lastly, grab some craft feathers and glue them on either side of the Easter chick! What a fun and adorable craft.

#14: Duck Handprint Craft

Here’s another cute handprint keepsake bird craft! This time we are making a duck.

We love feeding the ducks at our house. So, this craft was perfect for spring to talk to the kids about ducks!

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

paper
scissors
glue stick
feathers (optional)
glue
googly eyes

B. Set-up

Trace your child’s hand and cut it out.

C. Activity

Create the duck’s feet, head, neck, and bill out of paper. Cut these pieces out and paste them together to form a duck!

We added some blue wavy water at the bottom of the paper, a sun, and some clouds.

Add some eyes and feathers (optional) to the handprint. Then you’ll have a cute little duck craft!

#15: Icecream Cone Birdfeeders

Your kids are absolutely going to love this bird craft for preschoolers because they can make their own bird feeders!

This is a simple craft that everyone in the family will love.

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

sugar ice cream cones
peanut butter
bird seed
twine
plastic knife

B. Set-up

Cut the tip off the top of the ice cream cone. Then, thread a piece of twine through the top of the hole and make a knot (I made a few) so it won’t go through the cone.

C. Activity

Thread cheerios on the top (optional), but leave some space so it can be hung up.

Have the kids spread peanut butter around the entire cone. Then, sprinkle birdseed all over the cone so it sticks to the peanut butter.

Hang up outside and watch the birds hang out at your DIY bird feeder.

#16: Turkey Pom Craft

What a fun bird craft for preschoolers to make close to Thanksgiving!

I love how fun and colorful the feathers are for the turkeys.

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

construction paper
cardstock paper
googly eyes
scissors
glue stick
poms
clothespins
paint

B. Set-up

Create the turkey’s face out of paper and googly eyes!

Then, make a semi-circle on white cardstock paper and cut it out.

C. Activity

Paste the turkey’s face onto the white paper.

The kids will attach craft poms to clothespins so they can use them as a paintbrush.

Dip the pom into paint and make prints on the white paper to make the turkey’s feathers!

This can be in a pattern or just spots all around with different colors!

#17: Eagle Paper Bag Craft

We made this bird craft for the July 4th weekend! It’s such a fun eagle craft for kids to make and an adorable keepsake.

I love paper bag crafts because kids can use them as puppets.

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

paper bag
white paint
paper
scissors
glue stick
feathers (optional)

B. Set-up

Flip the, so the bottom of the bag is at the top, and paint it white for the eagle’s head.

C. Activity

While you are waiting for that to dry, trace your child’s hands and cut them out.

Paste the hands to the back of the bag, so they look like the eagle’s wings!

Add on googly eyes and create a beak out of paper and paste them on with a glue stick.

You can choose to add on feathers, or you can leave it brown!

Lastly, make the eagle’s claws out of paper and paste them at the bottom.

#18: Rocking Plate Bird Craft

The kids love the crafts that they can play with the most! Your kids will love this bird craft for preschoolers because it can rock back and forth.

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

paper plate
scissors
glue stick or hot glue
cardstock paper
googly eyes
watercolors

B. Set-up

Fold a paper plate in half and paint with watercolors! We used blue and red watercolors for a blue jay and cardinal.

C. Activity

Take another paper plate and two triangles out of it and paint it the same color that you did the body of the bird. These will be the wing and tail.

Use a glue stick or hot glue (more secure) to attach the wing and tail. The tail will go inside the paper plate.

Then, create a face out of white cardstock paper by drawing a circle and painting it the same color with the watercolors. Add a beak and googly eyes.

Paste that to the top of the paper plate and stand your bird up!

Now the kids can rock their bird craft back and forth.

#19: Parrot Plate Craft

How adorable is this paper plate parrot? I love this bird craft for preschoolers!

I love turning paper plates into fun crafts.

How to do this activity

A. Materials you need

paper plates
acrylic paint
feathers
streamer
glue
paintbrush

B. Set-up

Cut 1 paper plate in half and then cut another paper plate, so there’s about 1/4 left at the top for the head.

Paint the half all red for the body and the head half red and half orange. Lastly, cut a triangle off of one of the plates for the wing.

C. Activity

While you are waiting for the plates to dry, cut streamers to be the tail.

Also, create the eye for the parrot out of paper.

Once everything is dry, glue these parts to the parrot. You can hot glue the parrot together to ensure it stays or just use a glue stick; may just come apart easier.

Lastly, glue some red feathers onto the wing!
