#1: Ladybug Paper Plates
I love how simple this ladybug craft is for kids to make. It’s amazing you can turn a simple paper plate into something so cool.
The giant googly eyes make this craft so fun!
How to do this activity
A. Materials you need
- small paper plates
- acrylic paint
- circle brush
- black paper
- scissors
- glue
- googly eyes
B. Set-up
Paint the small paper plate red!
C. Activity
Create the ladybug’s head by drawing a semi-circle out of black paper. Cut it out and use a glue stick to paste it under the plate.
Then, cut six strips of black paper for the legs and paste three on each side.
When the plate is dry, the kids can use a circle brush to make black dots all around the plate.
Add googly eyes and paper antenna to the head of the ladybug, and you have the cutest insect craft!

#2: Ladybug Sponges
Using sponges is an easy and fun tool for the kids to use to create with,
This ladybug craft is easy and fun to make. We used Q-tips to make the spots!
How to do this activity
A. Materials you need
- sponge
- marker
- scissors
- paper
- googly eyes
- glue stick
- Q-tips
- paint
B. Set-up
Draw a circle shape onto a sponge and cut it out. You can start creating the head shape for each ladybug.
Make a small semi-circle on black paper and cut them out.
C. Activity
Dip the sponge into red paint and make several prints on paper.
Then, have the kids dip a Q-tip into black paper and make dots on each of the ladybugs! This is a great way to work on some fine motor skills.
They will paste the heads that you created at the top of each ladybug and glue on googly eyes.
Lastly, draw on 6 legs using a black marker. This is a great way to talk about how many legs insects have!

#3: Paper Ladybugs
I love simple paper crafts to make with the kids. They are easy, fun, and take a few minutes to create.
This ladybug craft is adorable with the craft poms!
How to do this activity
A. Materials you need
- colored paper
- googly eyes
- scissors
- glue
- poms
- glue stick
B. Set-up
Create a circle for the body of the ladybug on red paper and cut them out.
C. Activity
Create some grass by making some thin triangles, cutting them out, and pasting them onto either blue or white paper.
Make the ladybug’s face by making a smaller semicircle on black paper. Add googly eyes, antennae, and other cute little facial features.
Paste the face onto the ladybug’s body you created. Add some black poms on for spots!
Glue the ladybugs on top of the grass you created. Then, you can add legs using a marker.

#4: Ladybug Handprint Craft
My kids love ladybugs! Whenever we see them outside, they have to go check them out.
This insect craft is adorable and easy to make with the kids.
How to do this activity
A. Materials you need
- colored paper
- glue stick
- glitter glue
- googly eyes
- glue
- marker
B. Set-up
Trace your child’s hands-on red paper. We fold the paper in half and then cut the handprint out so you can get two prints easily.
C. Activity
Make dots on the handprints with a black marker. You could also use paint and make fingerprint dots!
Trace a small bowl twice and make two circles, one for the head and one for the body. We used the same size circles.
Then, use a glue stick to glue the handprints on the body so they can fan outward like you see above.
Glue the body to the head and make a face using googly eyes and glitter glue for the cheeks!

#5: Ladybug Coffee Filter Craft
Kids of every age will love this ladybug craft because they turn out so pretty no matter how you color the filters.
They can even scribble on the filter, and it will turn out amazing!
How to do this activity
A. Materials you need
- coffee filters
- spray bottles
- markers
- cardstock paper
- googly eyes
- scissors
- glue stick
- art trays
B. Set-up
Kids will color their coffee filters using red and black markers. Add just a little black so it doesn’t smear everywhere. A few little dots work great!
C. Activity
Use a spray bottle to spray the entire coffee filter on a tray. I separate all the filters, so they don’t blend together, so grab a few trays!
Then, let them air dry. This is a two-day project because they look so much better when they air dry.
Have the kids create the head for the ladybug out of black paper. Then, add googly eyes and antennae.
Use a glue stick to paste the head to the ladybugs!

#6: Puffy Paint Ladybug
Making your own puffy paint is easy, fun and it just takes a few ingredients that you probably have right now at home.
This isn’t just a ladybug craft! I included some other fun spring items for this one.
How to do this activity
A. Materials you need
- cardstock paper
- glue
- shaving foam
- poms
- scissors
- food coloring
- bowls
- paintbrushes
B. Set-up
To make the puffy paint, mix equal parts of foam shaving cream and glue together. We use Elmer’s school glue for this project.
If you want it to be extra puffy like ours, add in a bit more shaving foam.
To make different colors, add a few drops of food coloring into the mix.
C. Activity
Draw an oval shape for the body of the ladybug onto cardstock paper.
Use a spoon to scoop out the paint and use a paintbrush to spread it around the body.
Make a head and antennae for the ladybug out of black paper, and use a glue stick to paste it down.
Lastly, add on some black craft poms to finish the ladybug!

#7: Cupcake Liner Ladybugs
This is a simple ladybug craft that kids will love to make.
We used mini red cupcake liners to make these adorable ladybugs.
How to do this activity
A. Materials you need
- mini cupcake liners
- glue stick
- colored paper
- scissors
- marker
B. Set-up
Create strips of dark green and light green paper and make them different lengths. Have your little one glue the onto blue paper.
C. Activity
Flatten out red mini cupcake liners and use a glue stick to glue some down onto the grass strips.
Then, create a head for the ladybug by drawing semi-circles on black paper. Cut them out and paste them on top of each cupcake liner.
Draw on legs using a black marker and antennae.
Lastly, you can have the kids dip their fingers into black paint and make spots on the ladybug using fingerprints! This is an adorable and simple craft.
#8: Toilet Paper Roll Ladybugs
I always have a stash of toilet paper rolls ready for crafting! It’s great because its a supply you’ll always have on hand.
This ladybug craft is adorable! It’s amazing how you can turn a simple toilet paper roll into the cutest crafts.
How to do this activity
A. Materials you need
- toilet paper rolls
- black paint
- paintbrush
- googly eyes
- glue
- red paper
- scissors
B. Set-up
Paint the toilet paper rolls black! We like to use acrylic paint because it turns out bolder.
C. Activity
Create two semi-circles for the wings of the ladybug out of red paper. Have the kids create spots on the ladybug by fingerprinting!
Use a glue stick to paste them on or to make sure it stays on hot glue them on.
Glue the googly eyes and use pipe cleaners for the antennae. Cut small pieces of pipe cleaner and roll the tops a little to look like an antenna.
#9: Ripped Paper Ladybugs
Ripped paper crafts are great for building fine motor skills.
This ladybug craft is great for toddlers and preschoolers.
How to do this activity
A. Materials you need
- construction paper
- googly eyes
- glue stick
B. Set-up
Have the kids start ripping up red and black construction paper pieces.
C. Activity
Draw a circle shape for the ladybug on paper.
The kids will paste their red and black pieces onto the ladybug shape you drew. Then, cut out the circle.
Make a leaf shape on green construction paper and paste it onto paper. Then, paste the body of the ladybug on top of the leaf.
Create antennae and legs for the ladybug, and add googly eyes! This is such a simple and fun ladybug craft.

#10: Paper Bag Ladybug
This is a simple ladybug craft that’s great for your spring crafting unit!
Paper bag crafts are fun because kids can use them as puppets. These are my kid’s favorite types of crafts to create since they can play with them after.
How to do this activity
A. Materials you need
- paper bag
- black paint
- googly eyes
- glue
- scissors
- glue stick
- colored paper
B. Set-up
Paint your bag black! We like to use acrylic paint since it comes out bolder.
C. Activity
While you are waiting for your bag to dry, make the antenna out of black paper.
Also, you can make wings. Fold a piece of red cardstock paper in half and draw a semi-circle on the edge of the paper.
Cut it out so you get two wings of the same size!
Once the bag is dry, use a glue stick to glue on those pieces. Then, create black spots out of paper and glue them on the wings.
Add googly eyes, and you have the cutest ladybug craft puppet!
